“I am writing to say thank you for supporting SAGA (South Asian Cultural Association) I have attended these performances (dance and music) for many years and this year was most astounding. Why travel to India when i can see/hear some of the most celebrated artists from India right here in Spokane for FREE?
These performances included a very informative FREE workshop at Shadle Park Library on Friday, 10118th where we learned about the sitar, sarangi, sarod and tabla. It was fascinating to see such beautiful instruments up close and hear the musicians describe and play them for us. The next day, Saturday 10/19′”, we attended a FREE concert at the Lair at SCC accompanied by an Orissi dancer (gorgeous and graceful) that was definitely a highlight. I couldn’t believe that on Wednesday, 10125th we were again entertained with a South Indian Dance Drama in the Classical Bharatha Naatyam Style entitled: “Devi: Goddess Within Me.” This was dancing from a tradition that began around 200 BCE in India. I hope this gives you a taste of what your support means. You have “opened the doors” by presenting such invaluable art to a community starving for education and appreciation of many cultures. This is the only way we can have an impact on fear and hatred of other cultures. YOU DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Thank again.”
